You will have oversight over the future of the society the ideal candidate will be ambitious, organised, and full of ideas for how to improve Jacari and raise its profile in Bristol

Teaching Officer

The role of Teaching Officer is an excellent opportunity for any student interested in education or looking to gain more teaching experience. This role has the potential for a great deal of autonomy and creativity, and is ideal for a student with an interest in teaching and current knowledge of EAL teaching methods. You will also be expected to attend weekly meetings and assist with committee events.


  • Delivering teaching inductions

  • Building a Jacari Bristol library of resources for volunteers, such as books, games, worksheets and other useful lesson materials.

  • Maintaining and updating online resources for volunteers on the website.

  • Responding to volunteers’ queries about teaching

  • Running and organising teaching workshops



  • Strong communication skills and confident public speaker

  • A creative individual

  • Enthusiasm for the work Jacari does and a passion for tackling educational inequality


  • Previous or current Jacari Bristol volunteer

  • Experience of education/teaching methods, particularly EAL learning

  • Studying a teaching-related course

Publicity Officer & General Secretary

In this role  you will be creating resources to help recruit volunteers and spread the word of the great work Jacari Bristol does. You should also be prepared to attend weekly committee meetings and liaise with all other committee members to achieve your goals. You will need to be able to respond to publicity tasks in a flexible and timely manner. If you’re an adaptable, creative individual who is keen to get Jacari’s name shouted throughout Bristol then Publicity Officer is a great role for you. You will also take on the role of secretary, which involves managing the communication of the group- from taking minutes to publishing the details of our AGM and other group events.


  • Managing Jacari Bristol's social media accounts

  • Using Canva to create publicity materials

  • Sending out Mailchimp publicity e-mails

  • Liaising with student newspapers and other societies

  • Keeping our website up to date and looking great

  • Helping to meet targets for volunteer recruitment

Vice President/Treasurer

Good with numbers? Great at managing tight budgets? Then this role is for you!


The role involves carrying out treasurer duties, and also looking at the long-term direction of Jacari Bristol. This role will involve looking strategically at the successes and failings of the programme and looking at how we can do even better in the future. 



  • Managing Jacari Bristol’s committee bank account

  • Liaising with the SU to find ways to expand Jacari’s reach at the uni

  • Reimbursement of expenses for volunteers and committee members

  • Developing budgets and making them accessible to the rest of the committee

  • Creating and performing surveys and focus groups with volunteers, teachers and pupils

  • Liaising with the fundraising officer over grants and fundraising planning

Essential: ​

  • Confident working with numbers and producing budgets

  • Experience producing and analysing data

  • Experience producing reports or a willingness to learn

  • Ability to work in a team, with strong communication skills



  • Previous experience in a financial/social research role

  • Knowledge of fundraising and finance practice

  • Experience of liaising with Bristol SU in a committee role

Fundraising Officer


Are you an organised, motivated person who works well in a team? Do you love organising and delivering fun, engaging fundraising events? Can you write persuasively to secure support from local businesses and grants?  This role is for you. There is flexibility within this role as to whether you want to focus on events, grants, corporate or sponsorship fundraising (or a combination).



  • Working towards an annual fundraising target of £2,000.

  • Liaising with the treasurer and the rest of the committee to develop a fundraising strategy.

  • Researching and applying for grants to support committee activities.

  • Liaising with local businesses to secure sponsorship.


  • Excellent organisation and time management

  • Ability to use initiative and make valuable contributions within a team

  • Ability to meet targets and deadlines

  • Experience managing a budget


  • Experience of charitable fundraising

  • Experience working with charities and/or children

  • Experience with fundraising platforms such as Kickstarter, Facebook or LocalGiving.

  • Well connected within Bristol or with other societies.

Kids' Events Officer


As Kids' Events Officer you will be responsible for organising enrichment trips to exciting locations across Bristol to offer to Jacari families. These events are an essential part of our work as they bring volunteers together, as well as offering our families the opportunity to engage with Jacari and to experience all that Bristol has to offer. Previous trip venues include We The Curious, Bristol Zoo and the SS Great Britain.


  • Developing creative event ideas and working alongside the committee to make them happen.

  • Delivering a minimum of four kids' events annually (with the support of the committee)

  • Managing budgets for trips (including venue, transport, food) in liaison with the fundraising officer

  • Managing committee support roles for trips



  • Good organisation and time management

  • Excellent teamwork and leadership skills - this role involves liaising with a number of other committee members

  • Experience managing a budget

  • Ambitious ideas for expanding and raising the profile of our kids' events provision


  • Previous Jacari volunteer

Volunteer Support & Equalities Officer

As volunteer support & equalities you will be the first point of contact for our growing number of volunteers. You will work closely with the teaching officer to manage training for volunteers, and ensure socials are exciting and well attended. You will also ensure there are no barriers to participating as a Jacari member, and that our society is accessible to all. The commitment requirements of this role vary throughout the year, and is dependent on volunteer numbers and engagement so flexibility is essential.



  • Organising socials for both the committee and volunteers

  • Monitoring the volunteering inbox; answering volunteer emails quickly and effectively

  • Recording the minutes at the weekly meeting

  • Working creatively to engage volunteers with their tutoring and with wider Jacari events

  • Identifying and removing barriers to participation

  • Ensuring Jacari events are accessible to all

  • Creating an 'Equality Statement' for Jacari


  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience navigating Google Mail, Google drive and Microsoft packages, particularly Excel
