DBS CHECKS

In order to volunteer with Jacari, all volunteers are required to undergo an Enhanced DBS Check which will tell us about any spent and unspent criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings you have in the UK. An Enhanced DBS Check also shows any information held by local police that is considered relevant to your role as a Jacari volunteer.

If you already have a DBS check issued by another organisation, please click here to see if we can accept it or not.

Your DBS check will usually take place online via a Google Meet video call with a Jacari Coordinator. During this time you have a chat about Jacari volunteering and your motivations; you will fill in a form together; and you will show the Coordinator 3 identification documents. See the information below for which documents to bring.

If you are an international student or have lived outside the UK for more than 3 consecutive months during the past 5 years, click here for more information on how this process may look slightly different for you.

There are two possible routes to complete the check - most people should proceed via Route 1 but if this cannot work for you, see Route 2.

Route 1

The applicant must be able to show:

  • one document from Group 1

  • 2 further documents from either Group 1, or Group 2a or 2b

At least one of the documents must show the applicant’s current address - this can be your home address or your term-time address.

Route 2

If the applicant doesn’t have any of the documents in Group 1, then they must be able to show:

  • one document from Group 2a

  • 2 further documents from either Group 2a or 2b

At least one of the documents must show the applicant’s current address.

Route 3

Route 3 can only be used if it’s impossible to process the application through Routes 1 or 2.

For Route 3, the applicant must be able to show:

  • a birth certificate issued after the time of birth (UK and Channel Islands)

  • one document from Group 2a

  • 3 further documents from Group 2a or 2b
