We only take pupil referrals via our partner schools. We currently work with 15 schools (see list below), usually in liaison with the EAL lead or SENCo, or headteacher. If you'd like to refer a pupil and you aren't currently teaching at one of our partner schools, please email the Coordinator on firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss a partnership.
If you are a parent, please see the Parents page.
Important note: Location
If you are interested in a Jacari partnership for your school, please be aware that all our tutors are from Oxford University and Oxford Brookes, so they are living in and around the city centre or around Headington Campus. Since we cannot afford to reimburse travel expenses, this means we can only accept referrals of pupils who live in Oxford City - unfortunately it will not be possible to find tutors to travel to the wider Oxfordshire area.
How to refer a pupil:
1. If you have an EAL pupil who you think would benefit from Jacari teaching, you must obtain parental consent before completing the online referral. You can find and download the parental consent form, and a letter explaining what Jacari is, using the quick links on this page. Once you have collected consent forms for your pupils you should scan them and email them to the Coordinator, or post them to us.
2. Once you have consent, you can fill in the online referral form by clicking the button above.
We require teachers to write the EAL band (A, B, C, D or E) of each pupil.
Click here for more information about EAL bands.
3. When your online form is submitted, the pupil is added to our waiting list. We usually have more pupils than volunteers, so we appreciate your patience - it may take time to find a suitable volunteer tutor. When your pupil is matched with a tutor, the referring teacher or the Jacari school contact (EAL lead) will receive an email informing them about this. The tutor may be in touch with you, to ask for updated ideas on what the pupil needs help with.
4. If you are a Jacari contact at a partner school, the Jacari Coordinator will meet with you or arrange a phone call 2-3 times a year - in September, January and July - to discuss the pupils on our list and update their contact and teaching information.
