Volunteer with Jacari Bristol
Volunteer tutor (students only)
Jacari Bristol recruits volunteer tutors from University of Bristol and UWE.
As a volunteer we ask you to commit to tutoring once a week, for a minimum of either one academic year or 16 sessions.
There are over 12,000 young people in Bristol who have a first language that isn't English. We estimate that we currently work with less than 5% of the young people in need of Jacari. Your time as a volunteer is invaluable to helping a young person to build up their confidence and language skills and allow them to achieve their full potential.
If you are fluent in another language, you could provide invaluable support in helping our volunteer tutors to communicate with their pupils' families. This might be by translating letters that we send to them about the scheme or about a kids' event. It might also involve helping a volunteer to send a text message to a parent/carer when they are first matched up, or in some instances, helping him/her to phone the family. This role doesn't require a set number of hours per week.
We are in particular need of speakers of the following languages: Somali, Arabic, Kurdish (any dialect), Urdu, Mandinka, Romanian, Polish, Roma. You do not need to be a current student.
To express interest and for any further questions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Jacari Student Committee
Jacari is supported by a student committee, the Jacari Society at University of Bristol. It is likely that committee recruitment will next take place in January 2020.
We are currently recruiting for a current UWE student looking for leadership experience to assist in establishing a Jacari Society at UWE, and become the first President of the UWE Jacari Society. If you are interested in this role, please contact email@example.com
We are hugely grateful to individuals, students and non-students, who choose to organise fundraising or sponsorship events in support of Jacari. To find out more and get inspired, click the button below.
