MEET THE COMMITTEE

Co-Presidents: Katie and Olly

Hi, I’m Katie, a fourth-year student studying German and Arabic at Wadham. I love languages, teaching and meeting new people, so Jacari seemed like the perfect opportunity for me! Volunteering with Jacari has been great fun and full of new adventures, and I can’t wait to share this with others. As Co-Presidents, we’ll be overseeing the committee and organising meetings and fundraising activities.

Hey, I’m Olly. I’m a third year at New College studying French and Russian. It was a special experience contributing to the wonderful work Jacari does as a volunteer, and I’m very excited to now head the committee with my fellow Co-President, Katie. I am particularly keen to increase BME involvement with Jacari, so please get in touch if you would like to know more!

Teaching Officers: Elisa, Jacob and Caroline

Hi, I’m Elisa and I study Education Studies and English Language and Communications (I know, it’s a mouthful!) at Brookes. I know first hand how difficult it is to learn a new language and be expected to communicate in it and make friends. Jacari volunteers provide children with the confidence they need to tackle these issues, and that is just one of the reasons why Jacari is such a great organisation!

Hey! My name’s Jacob and I’m in my final year of studying Economics and Management at Hertford College. I’ll be helping to provide training and support for our community of volunteers. I’ve loved every moment of volunteering for Jacari so far and through being a Teaching Officer, I’ll have the opportunity of supporting and advising other students, so that they can have the same amazing experience that I’ve had!

Hi! I’m Caroline and I’m a second year studying French and German at Queen’s College. I’m looking forward to getting to know and support the current Jacari tutors through socials and workshops, as well as delivering inductions to new tutors throughout the year!

Publicity Team: Astrid, Hannah and Anthony

Hi! I'm Astrid, I'm in my third year studying Human Sciences at St John's. I began volunteering with Jacari at the start of my second year and have absolutely loved getting out of Oxford's 'bubble' once a week to teach and get to know my pupils. Alongside the other publicity officers, this year we hope to continue building a strong community amongst the volunteers, as well as keep recruiting of course!

Hi, I'm Hannah, a fourth year French and German student a St. Peter's. I started volunteering with Jacari during my second year and really loved both tutoring my pupil and assisting at the weekly mothers' classes. I'll be working with Anthony and Astrid this year on publicity and volunteer engagement. We will be responsible for Jacari social media and supporting and organising fun socials for all Jacari volunteers.

Hi, my name's Anthony. I’m a second year studying history at Trinity College, Oxford. I started tutoring last year and found it a refreshing break from uni work. As one of the publicity officers, I’ll be working Hannah and Astrid to make sure everyone on campus knows about Jacari. I hope to see you at one of our many events and inductions!
Mothers' Class Coordinator: Caitlin Clare

My name is Caitlin and I'm a third year Education student at Brookes. I have always had a passion for teaching and have spent time teaching ESL in New York, Spain, and Brazil. This led me to begin working with Jacari in Oxford. After spending last year as a teaching officer, this year I'll be taking on the running of Jacari's weekly mothers' classesThis involves recruiting volunteers, communicating with our partner primary schools, and running lessons for women in the local area.
