Jacari Celebrates Turning 70!

June 19, 2026

2026 is a momentous year for Jacari as it marks the 70th anniversary of Jacari’s formation as an organisation. On Saturday 6th June, Jacari staff came together with trustees, volunteers, families, former pupils, and even members of the original 1956 Jacari committee to celebrate at the Old School house in Oxford. It was a fabulous afternoon!

Guests at the party heard from inspirational speakers, all instrumental to Jacari’s journey as an organisation, who were expertly interviewed by Jacari peer tutors and pupils. It was fascinating to hear their stories of how Jacari came to be, and how it has evolved over seven decades.

It was wonderful to see ex committee members from the 1950s and 60s chatting with current Jacari tutors, or to see trustees playing games with current pupils and their families. It was an incredible opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate what has been achieved. There was a lovely moment when the guests spontaneously sang happy birthday to Jacari as we cut the beautiful cake!

We would like to thank everyone for coming, for taking time out of their weekend and especially for travelling across the country - and in one instance, even flying into the country - to celebrate with us.

Finally a huge thank you to Oxford’s Damascus Rose Kitchen for the delicious buffet, Happy Cakes for the splendid cake, and the talented Jake Armand for capturing the day so beautifully.
