Jacari's Big Night In

Cook for Jacari!

Prepare a special meal for family and friends this November and raise vital funds to provide tuition to young people who use EAL in Bristol and Oxford and help them achieve their potential.

How does it work?

  • You invite the guests, provide the venue, buy ingredients and prepare a meal
  • Organise your meal anytime in November.
  • Each of your guests donates to Jacari (we suggest £10 per person but any donation, no matter how small, will help us to support young people who use EAL to increase their confidence and language skills)
How do I collect donations?
We want to make this as simple as possible for you so have three options:
  1. Set up your own fundraising page and share with your guests
  2. Send your guests this link to donate directly to Jacari:
  3. Collect cash, pay it into your bank account and transfer the amount directly to Jacari. Please contact us for our account details

Who should you invite?

Family members, friends, colleagues, members of a group you’re involved in or perhaps make it a reunion with your university friends!

Students could cook for their housemates or friends. If you live in college or halls, be creative about what you can make in a shared kitchen.

It’s entirely your choice how many guests you invite, depending on how much space you have and how confident you are cooking a big meal. Whether you plan to cook for 3 or 30 people, this fun challenge is open to everyone!

What should you cook?

Do you have a meal that reminds you of volunteering with Jacari? Why not recreate some of the food you sampled in your pupil's home?

Or cook a meal made up of dishes from your Jacari pupil’s heritage - current volunteers could ask their pupil (or their parents!) for recipe ideas!

Or you could have a look through this Jacari recipe book, created by volunteers in 2012, for inspiration!

Cooking on a budget: you don't need to break the bank to cook a meal. There are some great ideas for meals which cost less than £1 per portion here.

Share your photos and recipes

We'd love to see your meals! Don't forget to take some photos during the meal and share them with us on social media.

If you would like to share a recipe from your Big Night In, please send it to as we are planning to compile a recipe book to commemorate our first ever Big Night In!
