Jacari's Big Night In
Cook for Jacari!
We’re asking our supporters, alumni and volunteers to get together for a meal with their family, friends or colleagues this autumn. It's an opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges faced by young refugee and migrants who don't speak English and tell a wider audience about Jacari's work.
How does it work?
You invite the guests, provide the venue, buy ingredients and prepare a meal.
If you'd like to make your meal a fundraiser (entirely optional!) you could ask your guests to donate a small amount to Jacari. Any donation, no matter how small, will help us to support young people who use EAL to increase their confidence and language skills)
How do I collect donations?
Please ask your guests to donate using the secure form on our website.
If you prefer to collect cash, you could pay it into your bank account and transfer the amount directly to Jacari. Please contact us for our account details
Who should you invite?
Family members, friends, colleagues, members of a group you’re involved in or perhaps make it a reunion with your university friends!
Students could cook for their housemates or friends. If you live in college or halls, be creative about what you can make in a shared kitchen.
It’s entirely your choice how many guests you invite, depending on how much space you have and how confident you are cooking a big meal. Whether you plan to cook for 3 or 30 people, this fun challenge is open to everyone!
What should you cook?
Do you have a meal that reminds you of volunteering with Jacari? Why not recreate some of the food you sampled in your pupil's home?
Or cook a meal made up of dishes from your Jacari pupil’s heritage - current volunteers could ask their pupil (or their parents!) for recipe ideas!
Or you could have a look through this Jacari recipe book, created by volunteers in 2012, for inspiration!
Share your photos and recipes
We'd love to see your meals! Don't forget to take some photos during the meal and share them with us on social media.
