We are excited to announce that we are taking part in the Lloyd’s of London Foundation Charity Abseil. On 27th June a team of five Jacari volunteers and staff will abseil down the famous Lloyd’s building. Standing at 289 feet, the Lloyd's building is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the City of London. Designed by architect Richard Rogers in the 1980s, it is known for it’s inside-out appearance with lifts and steel staircases going up the outside and exposed pipework.
This opportunity was offered to us as one of the charities that received a donation from Lloyd’s of London through their Market Charity Awards in 2023. Our finance trustee, Louise Sykes, won their gold award as recognition for volunteering for Jacari.
Our abseilers are Jacari volunteers Jemima, Rozzi and Emma, along with Jacari Coordinator Aggie and her partner Rob. We’ve been told that a few of our abseilers have a fear of heights to overcome and we’re so proud of them for tackling this in such a dramatic way! We will be there to support them on the day and will be posting lots of photos on social media.
Our brave abseiling team will be fundraising for Jacari and we are aiming to raise over £1500 in vital funds from this challenge. We would love you to support them - any donation, whatever amount, will help young people in Bristol and Oxford to learn English and build their confidence.
