Last Sunday, it was great to welcome volunteers, their pupils and families to our ice-skating event at the Oxford Ice Rink. Despite the cold weather and midday traffic in Oxford, a Jacari crowd gathered on the ramp outside the rink at 12.30pm.
Following a greeting and safety briefing from our kids’ event officer Polly, pupils and volunteers hurried inside to collect skates and grab a penguin or snowman skating aid. Gloves and hats were thrown on and skates laced up. Soon, everyone was on the rink!
It was brilliant to see how quickly many of the pupils got to grips with the skating. One pupil who had never skated before showed as much determination and confidence on the rink as in his Jacari lessons by soon discarding his penguin in favour of a snowman.
During the afternoon, we chatted to parents of Jacari pupils about our tutoring and enrichment opportunities. Several parents were keen to praise Jacari volunteers for their commitment and energy to weekly lessons and expressed appreciation for the progress made by their children.
It was great to see our latest volunteers and their pupils getting to know each other as well as to see those who have become familiar faces at our kids’ events. Watch this space for upcoming kids’ events for you and your Jacari pupil to get involved in over the next few months.
Everyone had an enjoyable time.
