We're delighted to welcome two new members to the Jacari team this month! Aggie Kaziszyn and Ben Crowther will be joining Jacari as Assistant Coordinators, supporting Anna and Freya with the day-to-day running of our Bristol and Oxford branches respectively.
Aggie told us more about herself: "I visited Bristol 14 years ago and decided to make it my home because I've never been to more vibrant and diverse city. Working as an ESOL tutor has shown me what a great power education has to transform lives, seeing my students achieve more and gain confidence has been the most rewarding experience."
Ben told us: "I am a recent graduate from the University of Oxford. During my time at university, I volunteered for Jacari tutoring a school pupil who wanted to improve his conversational English. It was hugely rewarding to see his English improve. Having been a volunteer and attended events organised by the Oxford student committee, I’ve seen how valuable it is to develop a community around Jacari."
Aggie and Ben will be responsible for managing a team of volunteer tutors. They will help to recruit new tutors, organise their inductions, arrange training and provide ongoing regular support to volunteers, dealing with queries and providing teaching advice and resources. They will also manage and support our student committees in Bristol and Oxford.
In addition, they will be responsible for liaising with the schools we partner with, keeping in regular contact with the schools’ English as an Additional Language leads about the children we are supporting, processing new pupil referrals and matching volunteers to pupils. The Assistant Coordinators will also be the point of contact for parents and carers of the children we support. Another part of their role is helping to organise our kids' events and supporting our student committees with organising fundraising and social events for volunteers.
It’s such an exciting time for Jacari as we are expanding our team so we are able to provide more support to our volunteers and pupils and improve the quality of our tuition programme. Just 5 years ago we only had one paid member of staff and now have a team of 5 so we are making amazing progress!
