Oxford Kids Carnival

On Saturday 12th June it was a joy to welcome 21 Jacari volunteers, pupils and parents to our Kids Carnival event in the University Parks. For some volunteers and pupils this was their first chance to meet in person after almost a year of online lessons together - a surreal experience but a very happy one.

We enjoyed some delicious picnic food and craft activities, including clay modelling, making bookmarks and keyrings, and a very complicated bracelet kit that stumped quite a few of our student volunteers! Some brave committee members also tried their hand at being a face-painter, with great results.

We also invited pupils and parents to reflect on what Jacari has meant to them as a small local charity. One parent told us that her son had really come out of his shell since meeting his Jacari tutor - having moved to the UK only a year ago, his confidence was quite low when he started the tutoring but at the event, he was happily chatting away with several Jacari volunteers which was lovely to see.

Jacari pupils entered a writing competition for our 65th anniversary.

Congratulations to the outgoing student committee on organising a fun (and Covid-safe) event to round off the year, and many thanks to the University Parks team for allowing us to use their marquee for free.
