We are delighted to welcome Katy Isaac to our team. Katy is joining us as our new Charity Manager, replacing Anna Bowie who has been leading Jacari for seven years. Over to Katy to tell us more about herself!
It is an absolute privilege to join the staff team of Jacari! It is work that I believe in wholeheartedly, centring on values which are aligned with my own.
I come to this role having been involved with Jacari for eight years already. First, as EAL (English as an Additional Language) Lead at a partner school, Barton Hill Academy in Bristol, and then as a trustee on Jacari’s board, advising on EAL and teaching. Previously I was EAL Lead for Venturers Trust, a multi-academy trust in Bristol which includes four Jacari partner schools. Among a variety of other related roles in diverse contexts, I have also worked as an EAL trainer, and I worked in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) in Bristol for many years.
I am particularly interested in what it means to be multilingual in the UK education system, and I am passionate about improving the educational experiences of EAL pupils. Beyond this, my passions are mainly good coffee and good food - sourcing, making, and consuming! And I have always loved languages and language learning.
It’s been such a pleasure getting to know the Jacari team better over the past few weeks, and beginning to get to grips with how the organisation works from the inside. A special acknowledgement goes to Anna Bowie who has done a brilliant job over the past seven years and is quite an act to follow! A huge thank you to her for her commitment and her support in the handover process. I am thrilled to be able to contribute to Jacari’s continued development, and look forward to helping increase impact.
