Our response to the crisis in Ukraine

Here at Jacari, we are devastated by the unfolding crisis in Ukraine. Our thoughts are with all those who are affected by the conflict and those who are forced to flee their homes. As a charity that works closely with refugees and asylum-seeking communities, we are aware of the many challenges faced by those fleeing from conflict.

We know that many of the children and families we support will find the news from the region particularly upsetting, especially if they have links to Ukraine, or if they have experienced forced migration as a result of war themselves. This article from the BBC has some helpful advice about looking after yourself and supporting children during these unsettled times.

We also wanted to offer our volunteers some support and guidance if it comes up during their lessons. It might be helpful to read and share this video and article by the children’s news programme ‘Newsround’ about feeling upset by the news. Newsround’s website also has lots of videos to help explain what’s happening in Ukraine in child-friendly language.
